Municipal Elections - Town Council, School Board Members & Water District Trustee
The annual Municipal Election to elect Town Councilors, School Board Members, and Water District Trustees is held in conjunction with the State Election on the first Tuesday in November. The polls are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Community Center located at 61 Water Street in Fairfield.
School District Budget - MSAD#49
According to the new school district consolidation laws, the school board must hold a District Budget Meeting (open town meeting style) so voters may vote on itemized budget amounts for the upcoming fiscal year. The District Budget Meeting is held in the month of May at 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Junior High School gymnasium. Once the budget amounts are adopted at the District Budget Meeting, the school board must hold a District Budget Validation Referendum Election, in which voters will vote either yes or no on the total budget amount for the upcoming fiscal year. The Validation Election is held within 10 days of the District Budget Meeting. Due to low turnout for this type of election, the polls are only open from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and is held at the Town Office.
State Elections
The State typically holds Elections on the second Tuesday in June and first Tuesday in November of each year. The Primary Election is held on the second Tuesday of June of each even numbered year, while the General Election is held on the first Tuesday in November also in each even numbered year. Referendums may be held at either the June or November Election Days. The polls are open from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Community Center located at 61 Water Street.
