Voter Registration
A person must meet the following qualifications to vote in a municipality:
- Must be a United States citizen
- Must be at least 18 years of age
Note: A 17 year old can vote in a party's Primary Election or municipal caucus, if that person is qualified to vote, and is registered and enrolled in the applicable party, and if that person will be at least 18 years of age by the date of the next General Election. - Must have established and must maintain a voting residence in that municipality
- Must be registered to vote in that municipality
- Must be enrolled in a party to vote at a caucus, convention or Primary Election
The State requires providing Identification and Proof of Residency to the Voter Registrar.
Residents of Fairfield may register to vote at the Registrar/Municipal Clerk's Office located at 19 Lawrence Avenue in Fairfield during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.). The Municipal Clerk also holds extended hours until 6:00 p.m. on the Monday a week prior to Election Day for the convenience of residents.
Residents may also register to vote on Election Day at the Fairfield Community Center located at 61 Water Street in Fairfield. However, if you plan to register to vote on Election Day, please expect long lines. You will need to first wait in the line to register to vote, and then you will need to wait in an additional line to check-in and receive your ballot(s).

- Government issued photo ID
- Signed Social Security Card
- Certified Birth Certificate

- Current State of Maine Drivers License or State ID
- Current Utility Bill
- Current Vehicle Registration
- Current Bank Statement
- Current Government Check
- Current Payroll Stub
- Current Welfare Benefit Eligibility Form
- Current Resident Hunting/Fishing License
- Current Lease or Rent Receipt
- Oath/Affirmation Affidavit signed before the Clerk/Registrar by applicant under penalty of law (only if the applicant does not have any other form for proof of residency).
