Notary Public Services
By appointment & if Notary is available, the Town provides courtesy simple* Notary Public services free-of-charge to residents of Fairfield, does not include multi-witness service, and for a fee of $5.00 per Notary Public signature, to non-residents (cash/check). Courtesy Notary service does not include fax/copy/scan service. Proof of current Fairfield street address is required to waive fee; current: drivers license/State ID, vehicle registration, utility bill, other official documentation. Fairfield Fee Schedule
* EXCLUSIONS: The Town does NOT provide notary services for:
- Mortgage, Real-Estate, Deed & Property closings
- Wills, Probate, Estate, Complex Legal Documents
- I-9 Employment Forms
- Marriage Ceremonies
- Other complex, multi-signature, multi-notary / multi-witness signature documents
* As these take a considerable amount of time to complete; check local banks/office-stores for this type of complex service.
Notary Public availability is not a state-required service, but rather courtesy service if schedule permits; there may be circumstances in which a Notary might not be immediately available due to: other municipal/state mandated tasks, elections, welfare, licensing, or scheduled absence, you may call to check Notary availability at 453-7911.
For notarizations, the Notary Public will require a current government issued picture ID to included: Driver's License, State ID card, or passport. For minors who do not have a driver's license or State Lic/ID, the Notary Public will accept a certified birth certificate plus: either a signed social security card or a current signed hunting/fishing license.
Do not sign the document until you are in the presence of the Notary Public.
Notes: Notarization is an affirmation that a person appeared before and signed in the presence of a Notary Public: with qualified ID, of coherent sound mind, not impaired or under influence, coercion or duress, and that the signor conveys the foregoing is of their free act and deed. The transaction of notarizing a document is not a guarantee that a document is any more, nor any less legally binding; the Town is not liable for, nor can not offer legal advice regarding documents presented for notarized signature. The Notary is prohibited from notarizing a document in a foreign language that is unknown to the Notary.
Witness (if required additional to the Notary): when scheduling your witness(s) for the appointment > signors may not be a person or entity that have a pecuniary interest or benefit to the document being signed.
